About Us

Stanford Continuing Studies invites you to join our open learning community. Each year, more than 17,000 lifelong learners take our courses in Liberal Arts & Sciences, Wellness & Health, Creative Writing, and Professional Development. We have no formal application process, and all adults are welcome to attend. We are here to help you nourish your mind in the company of Stanford Continuing Studies instructors and your fellow students.

Since the program's inception in 1988, more than 1,000 Stanford faculty and academic staff have taught in Continuing Studies. They are joined by carefully-recruited artists, journalists, business people, and academics from neighboring institutions.

We are currently offering on-campus courses, and two styles of online courses for students. Live Online Courses: many of our traditional on-campus courses have transitioned to online courses to offer a remote learning experience that resembles the on-campus classroom experience. These courses feature live lectures and discussions with the instructor. Flex Online Courses: these courses offer on-demand video lectures and optional weekly meetings with the instructor and fellow students.

With the warm support of the University, its President, and its Provost; the enthusiastic participation of Stanford's faculty and academic staff; the dedicated commitment of our own administrative staff; and—most importantly—the loyalty of engaged students, we encourage you to enrich your mind, cultivate your curiosity, and join us today.

Our Mission

The mission of Stanford Continuing Studies is to share the rich educational resources of Stanford University with adult students, to nurture a vibrant learning community, to nourish the life of the mind, and to promote the pleasures of intellectual exploration.
