LIBRARIES & BOOKSTORE
Stanford LibrariesBorrowing privileges at Stanford Libraries (SUL)* is granted with a valid government-issued ID and a confirmation of enrollment in an on-campus course that is longer than 3 weeks. Students enrolled in online courses are not able borrow materials at this time.
A Registration Confirmation email or a view of one's online student account displayed on a smartphone are acceptable. Students are not eligible for remote access to databases or other online resources, interlibrary borrowing, or lockers/carrels in Green Library.
- If your on-campus course is 5 weeks or longer:
Students are eligible for a SUL access and borrowing card valid from the start of the course until one week after the course ends. Students must present confirmation of enrollment and a valid government-issued photo ID to the Loan & Privileges Desk at Green Library to receive a library card. The Privileges Desk is open anytime the library is open. There is a 25-item limit on borrowing privileges at one time.
A $10 fee will be required to obtain a library card if you do not currently have one. (There will be a $25 replacement charge for lost/damaged cards). If you have received a library card in the past but it does not have your photo on it, you will be required to upgrade to the new card if you wish to check out books.
- If your on-campus course is between 3-4 weeks:
Students are eligible for building access to the SUL libraries, but no borrowing privileges are available for courses of this duration. No library card is required for building access to Stanford Libraries. Students must simply present a confirmation of enrollment letter and a valid government-issued ID at the library entrance for building access. Access ends when the course is over.
- If your course is less than 3 weeks, or online:
No library access or borrowing privileges will be provided beyond Stanford's Courtesy Privileges.
