The Organ Symphonies of Louis Vierne

EVT 621
Jan 22—Jun 12
7:30 pm
Stanford Memorial Church
Status: No Registration Required
The six remarkable organ symphonies of Louis Vierne (1870–1937) tower over the organ music of the late Romantic era. He was for thirtyseven years the organist of Notre Dame de Paris, and it is with that building that his music is so closely identified—music of great drama, poetry, longing, playfulness, pathos, exuberance, and deep sorrow. In celebration of the 150th anniversary of his birth, this yearlong series of symphonies will be performed on the Murray Harris organ in historic Stanford Memorial Church.
