While AI models have been around for years, it was the novelty of adding a user interface that brought mainstream attention to their capabilities and ushered in the next generation of user experiences that would forever change how humans interact with technology. This course is designed for those interested in learning how to create those experiences. Students will start by learning foundational concepts, including natural language understanding (NLU) and computer vision. They will then move on to learning design principles, including—but not limited to—fairness and bias mitigation, dialogue management, and conversation flow. Students will apply these concepts to a final project: an end-to-end conversational AI user experience flow. In the process, students will acquire new skills in conducting user research, developing insights to help them shape an MVP for their AI product, prototyping the user experience, and gathering user feedback. By the end of this course, students will have acquired a robust understanding of AI design concepts and the skills to take on real AI projects.
