Patagonia, Warby Parker, and Ben & Jerry’s have each made purpose part of their business strategies—but does doing good actually create a competitive advantage? This course examines how values can inform strategy, helping professionals and entrepreneurs build ventures that deliver financial returns and meaningful social good. Students explore stakeholder capitalism, integrated impact strategies, and values-driven leadership—and how these can strengthen competitive advantage and organizational resilience. Through lectures, case studies, and guided exercises, students will:
Define and communicate a compelling organizational purpose that drives culture and strategy Design a sustainable business model that balances growth with social and environmental responsibility Apply impact measurement frameworks such as the B Impact Assessment to evaluate performance Lead ethically and build mission-aligned teams that attract top talent and foster stakeholder trust
Students will leave with a purpose-driven business model for a venture of their own design and concrete next steps.
