Imagine walking into a meeting with a senior leader who is ready to make a decision. You know the details inside and out, but what matters most is knowing which details will help that person decide and what recommendation you want them to act on. The ability to read the room, make a clear case, and help move a decision forward is a skill that can be developed through practice.
You’ll learn to lead with your recommendation rather than burying it in context, calibrate how much detail a message needs, and recognize when building consensus will help move a decision forward and when it could cause delays. From there, you’ll turn to advocacy: anchoring your case in what a decision-maker already values, framing a request to strengthen the relationship, and escalating a stalled issue without creating unnecessary conflict.
Through guided practice and feedback, you’ll apply these approaches to the decisions, conversations, and requests that matter most in your work.
