What transforms an interview into a podcast that listeners can't stop thinking about? In this highly interactive course, award-winning podcaster and author Laura Joyce Davis draws on her own interviews with masters of the medium Ira Glass, Anna Sale, Jad Abumrad, and Lulu Miller to uncover the craft behind exceptional audio storytelling. You'll learn to conduct richer interviews and shape them into narratives with real momentum and arc, then find the sound and voice that make a story feel unmistakably yours. Guided exercises and hands-on production will train you to think like a narrative producer, weighing every choice of pacing and structure the way a director weighs a shot. Other accomplished podcasters will join as guest speakers, walking through their own creative processes and the decisions behind their best work. You’ll leave with a polished two-minute trailer and a 15-minute pilot episode, along with an instinct for craft you can carry into every story you tell.
Recommended for students who have completed ART 43: “Storycrafting for Podcasters” or have equivalent experience. Familiarity with audio editing software such as Descript or Hindenburg is helpful but not required.
