George Harrison once wrote, “Everyone should have and play a ‘UKE.’ It’s so simple to carry with you and it’s one instrument you can’t play and not laugh.” He carried one everywhere and gave them freely to friends, insisting that anyone who played the ukulele was a little “crackers.” Good advice from a Beatle. This course offers an introduction to playing the ukulele for complete beginners and early-stage players. Students will learn essential chords, strumming patterns, and basic fingerpicking, along with simple chart reading and rhythm skills. Each week, the class will learn a new song that utilizes new chords and techniques, and ultimately, students will play each song together as a group. By the end of the course, you will be “crackers”—or at least able to play along with rock, folk, and pop songs.
This course is designed for those with little or no experience in playing the ukulele. Students should bring a ukulele (soprano, concert, or tenor in C tuning) and a portable music stand to each class session.
