Explore cadaver specimens and digital technologies used by Stanford medical students as they prepare for careers in the health sciences and by surgeons in the treatment and care of patients. Although cadaver specimens are the foundation of instruction at Stanford, digital resources, such as 3D interactive anatomy apps, provide students and practitioners with data for visualizing the spatial relationships between anatomical structures and the full extent of specific anatomy that may be difficult to explore on a cadaver. In the morning session, students will learn to identify anatomical structures in the abdomen using digital resources and anatomical specimens. In the afternoon session, they will observe cadaver-based surgical procedures used to treat common clinical conditions affecting the abdomen, with emphasis on the gallbladder, appendix, and reproductive system. The course offers insight into the combination of resources and imaging that makes learning anatomy at Stanford a unique experience.

BETH HABELOW

Beth Habelow teaches medical, physician assistant, and undergraduate students in clinical anatomy and the musculoskeletal physical examination. She is also a practicing physical therapist and treats private patients in their homes.

MIGUEL ANGELES
Clinical Assistant Professor, Division of Clinical Anatomy, Department of Surgery, Stanford Medicine

Miguel Angeles is an obstetrician-gynecologist and teaches anatomy to undergraduates, medical students, and physician assistant students. He emphasizes the clinical and surgical applications of anatomical principles by dissection and demonstration of surgical procedures using cadaveric specimens.
