Creativity is an invaluable tool. It enriches our lives, sharpens curiosity, fosters mindfulness, and deepens our engagement with the world. Every one of us can harness it, yet so many of us have been taught to push it aside to make room for things deemed more important. Over time, many of us feel we have forgotten how to be creative at all, especially amidst the routine and stress of everyday life. Like any meaningful habit, creativity thrives through daily practice. In this course, we will reignite our creative selves through in-class demos, exercises, and guided daily prompts.
Each week, students will experiment with a range of media—such as drawing, photography, writing, mindfulness, and more—to explore themes including identity, endurance, memory, and grief. Daily prompts include instruction and examples, emphasizing experimentation and play over perfection. Students will also be introduced to contemporary creatives who embrace daily practice to better understand why such practice is important for art-making and one’s well-being.

This course emphasizes creativity, observation, and play over highly technical art practices. Students of all experience levels are welcome. While students will complete and upload creative exercises, the instructor is not able to hold critiques of student work during class hours. Students must purchase their own art supplies for this course, the cost of which will depend on students’ individual needs.
