Creating a video is an artistic expression of your passion. And who doesn't want their videos to look great and engage their audience? Geared toward the novice, this course will introduce you to the basics of planning for your video (how to create a script, a storyboard, and an execution plan) and shooting your video, including lighting, sound, and composition of a shot. You will learn the tools, terms, and technologies the professionals use to make the most impactful videos. We will study commercials and films to learn film language from the experts and will practice using those strategies to lift your projects above the rest. We will also learn editing best practices—not just how to execute the techniques, but also how to use them for maximum impact. This course will feature real-world filmmaking topics, such as how transitions are used in movies and documentaries. The course will cover DaVinci Resolve, a freely available nonlinear editor that is used extensively in the film and television industry. Students can work with their own footage or use sample footage provided by the instructor. By the end of the course, you will have created a short video and published it online.
