This course is open to students who have completed five quarters of Italian in Continuing Studies, as well as to newcomers who can already converse in Italian about their home, family, and activities in the present and recent past, in the imperfect and the future, and who can shop in Italian at a local market. Using a “building block” approach to teaching and learning, the course will help students progress rapidly in both written and oral language, strengthening conversational fluency through essential vocabulary and grammar. Italian media—such as videos, newspapers, and magazines—will further enhance language skills and cultural understanding. Students will receive individualized attention tailored to their learning goals. By the end of the course, students will be able to communicate with greater ease and flexibility in Italian, including ordering in restaurants, talking comfortably about work and travel, expressing viewpoints, and participating in longer, more spontaneous conversations.

Students must complete ITA 05: “Beginning Italian: Part V” or have comparable experience prior to enrolling in this course.
