With roots stretching back more than 3,000 years, Chinese calligraphy is among the world’s oldest art forms. It calms the mind and sharpens focus by aligning rhythmic brush movements with energy, or qi. In this introductory course, you will learn foundational techniques while exploring the art's rich history and philosophy. Each session in our relaxed, welcoming environment will introduce essential tools, strokes, and styles, offering hands-on practice to help you develop your personal technique. As you craft delicate characters on rice paper, you’ll engage with the deeper connections calligraphy fosters among artistry, culture, and mindfulness. Whether you are looking for a new hobby or a thoughtful journey into Chinese culture, this course provides both skill and serenity, helping you create beautiful artwork with every stroke.
Prior experience in calligraphy is helpful but not required. Students must purchase their own art supplies for this course and can expect to spend an additional $65–$100 on these materials.
