Begin, develop, or complete your novel this year with a committed mentor and a dedicated community of peers. In Novel Club, we’ll meet weekly to learn the craft of novel writing, beginning with the fundamentals of character, structure, setting, plot, and point of view and moving to advanced techniques for capturing interiority, moving through time, and writing subtext-laden dialogue. While novel writing can feel solitary and hard, this course provides the scaffolding of both large-group discussions and small peer support groups who read each other’s new pages regularly. While everyone is expected to read each piece submitted for workshop closely and come prepared for thoughtful discussion, no written critiques are required, saving more time for one’s own writing. The instructor will provide detailed written feedback and hold one-on-one conferences with each student. Share the joys and challenges of the writing life. Show up for the work—and for one another.

This is the first course in our Novel Club series. The second course of the series will be offered in Winter 2027 and the third course in Spring 2027. Completing each course guarantees priority registration in the following quarter. Each course can be taken independently as well.
