Sharp was both elegant and impassioned in her playing, in turn sweetly lyrical and dazzlingly virtuosic. As soon as the piece finished, all I wanted was to hear it performed again. —San Francisco Classical Voice

Join us for a musical celebration of a Bay Area treasure, violinist Robin Sharp, who will join forces with San Francisco Chamber Orchestra All-Stars Wendy Sharp, violin; Jenny Douglass and Ben Simon, violas; and Eric Gaenslen and Margaret Edmondson, celli, for an evening of seldom-heard chamber music masterpieces. The centerpiece of the evening will be Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s brilliant sextet, Souvenir de Florence, composed—by a happy coincidence—when he was fifty years old. This program will feature a short presentation by host Ben Simon as well as a discussion of the music to be presented.

Robin Sharp, Violinist; Concertmaster, San Francisco Chamber Orchestra; Lecturer, Department of Music, Stanford

Robin Sharp has appeared in recital at many prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall in New York, the Musikverein in Vienna, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, and the National Concert Hall in Taipei. She formerly served as first violinist of the Ives Quartet, and has participated in music festivals worldwide including California Summer Music, the Musikalischer Sommer Festival in Germany, the Sándor Végh masterclasses at Prussia Cove, and the Isaac Stern Seminar in New York.

Ben Simon, Violist; Music Director, San Francisco Chamber Orchestra (SFCO)

Ben Simon is in his 17th season as music director of the SFCO. Simon, also a violist, puts down his baton to join his fellow SFCO All-Stars for select performances. He is also the music director of the award-winning youth ensemble Palo Alto Chamber Orchestra.
