LASER is a national program, founded in 2008 by cultural historian Piero Scaruffi under the aegis of Leonardo ISAST, which brings artists and scientists together for informal presentations and conversation with an audience. Each evening event, free of charge and open to the public, presents artists, scientists, thinkers, inventors, and scholars who are working on paradigm shifts. People in the audience are also encouraged to briefly introduce their own work.

Speakers for the April 10 LASER event include:
Carrie Hott (Media Artist) on "Nets for the Unweighable: A Brief History of Nets"
Angele Christin (Communication/Stanford) on "The Politics of Algorithms"
Janine Zacharia (Communication/Stanford) on "The Future of Journalism"
Catherine Chalmers (Artist/Filmmaker) on "The Original Social Network"

Speakers for the June 14 LASER event include:
Geri Migielicz (Communication/Stanford) on "The Future of Journalism is Visual - Nothing Else is Certain"
Reza Zadeh (Stanford Institute for Computational Mathematics) on "Computer Vision"
Adriana Manago (UC Santa Cruz) on "Millennials Go Online to Building Their Offline Lives"
Patricia Lange (CCA) on "Is Ranting Ever a Good Idea?"

This program series is co-sponsored by the Office of Science Outreach, The Art Institute, the Deans of Engineering, Humanities & Sciences, Medicine, and Research at Stanford, and Stanford Continuing Studies.
