The last few years have demonstrated that in these chaotic and competitive times, sound strategic choices are crucial to keeping your organization moving in the right direction. This course will present and apply proven strategic frameworks that will enable teams to ask the right questions and generate timely and high-impact responses. An example is the vision statement. It consists of a purpose (what the organization wants to achieve) and a mission (approximately five key strategies to ensure that the purpose is achieved). The key to success is having the team develop the purpose and mission together, resulting in a synergistic and creative vision that the team stands behind. Students will find that they can immediately use these strategic tools, both as individuals and in teams, in their current business activities to significantly increase effectiveness. Students are encouraged to select work-related challenges and opportunities that they are currently facing for in-class application of the course materials. This course is intended for all levels of managers in both for-profit and nonprofit organizations who want to increase their ability to think and act strategically. The key takeaway is a toolkit that provides for effective strategic thinking (doing the right thing) as a precursor to effective strategic planning (doing things right).
Ron Schilling, Executive Chairman, EchoPixelRon Schilling has worked in R&D, marketing, business development, strategic planning, and general management, and as a CEO. He has been on teams successfully bringing microprocessors, CT, MRI, and healthcare IT to market using strategic-thinking tools. Schilling’s current focus is venture activity and team coaching in situations where clinical needs and medical technology intersect to produce unique solutions. He received a PhD in electrical engineering from Polytechnic Institute of New York and an MSEE from Princeton.
