Savvy business leaders, skillful teammates, wise parents, and theater professionals all inherently understand the same truth: effective vocal delivery makes the difference between being ignored and achieving a desired impact. The good news: you were born with a ready presence and an open voice. It’s in your DNA, a birthright gift for your survival. The challenge: you have almost certainly developed habits, stresses, and tensions that inhibit your fundamental ability to communicate.

In this course, we will identify and dissolve such restrictions by applying the same safe, playful, and practical exercises that renowned British voice and presence coach Patsy Rodenburg has used successfully with Oscar winners, Olympic gold medalists, and global business leaders. Drawing inspiration from her book The Right to Speak: Working with the Voice, we will learn to inhabit the “Second Circle,” a physical and attitudinal way of being that promotes grounded confidence, ready connection, and easy charisma. With that presence in place, you will begin to coordinate the body, breath, and voice so that your communication gains its natural clarity and power. Students will come away from the course noticing profound shifts in how they move and speak in the world.

Prerequisite: Advanced-level proficiency in spoken English.
