Emotional intelligence is a proven differentiator in both the competitive climb up the corporate ladder and the establishment of personal well-being. Emerging and established leaders need to navigate the increasing uncertainty, volatility, complexity, and interdependent environment of the modern workplace. In this course, students will learn science-based frameworks for building this often elusive skill set. They also will have the opportunity to build key emotional intelligence competencies. These include self-awareness (of their vision, values in action, and mindfulness); self-management (including emotional attunement, response flexibility, resilience, and growth mindset); and relational intelligence (to foster effective teaming, psychological safety, inclusion, diversity of thought, and positive conflict). We will also explore how leaders can cultivate whole-life success for themselves and their teams without sacrificing ambition, becoming “soft,” or losing their winning edge. In a learn-by-doing approach, students will assess, plan, implement, and track impact as they create new mental and behavioral habits at work and in their personal life. Class sessions will include small-group breakouts, discussions, meditations, and action planning. Students also will complete homework readings, daily exercises, and tracking logs. By improving their inner game, leaders will be able to bring out the best in themselves and others in order to achieve high individual and team performance and organizational impact.
