Do you wish your voice and body language could speak clearly and confidently when the stakes are highest? Have you ever shied away from an opportunity for connection or driven someone away through unintentional intimidation? Do you want your team to work more effectively, whether you’re the official leader or a team member? This immersive course, based on the approach that voice and acting coach Patsy Rodenburg has used with Oscar winners, Olympic gold medalists, and global business leaders, will teach you to inhabit “Second Circle”—a physical and attitudinal way of being that generates natural charisma, resilient confidence, and calm in the face of chaos. First, we will introduce safe and fun movement, breathing, and speaking exercises to develop your personal presence. Next, we will deepen that work and extend it into the realm of ensemble presence, demonstrating what possibilities emerge when an entire group works together to become authentically connected. You will learn to support others while simultaneously commanding the room. This work can open a sense of freedom and possibility very quickly, and continue to deliver insights and growth over the long haul.
The course is open to those with or without prior vocal or theatrical training.
Ted DesMaisons has studied, performed, and taught improvisation internationally, is a trained Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) instructor, and has studied with British acting, voice, and presence coach Patsy Rodenburg. He co-hosts Monster Baby, a podcast on improvisation and mindfulness, and he is the author of Playful Mindfulness. DesMaisons received an MBA from Stanford and a MTh from Harvard.
