Venture capital has been the backbone of entrepreneurship in Silicon Valley for more than 50 years. A positive relationship between the entrepreneur and venture capitalists is significant, even crucial, to maximizing business value. This course is designed to help entrepreneurs understand the inner workings of venture capital firms and how they manage to fund the most successful entrepreneurs. Students will learn the inside dynamics of venture capital funds: how they meet their investors’ expectations; how they design their investment process to balance risk, return, and governance; how they decide on investment stages and allocate capital; their expectations of entrepreneurs and how this translates to the term sheet; and why fund organization structure matters to entrepreneurs. Entrepreneurs will learn how to see entrepreneurship from the perspective of the investor. Whether you are an experienced or a would-be entrepreneur, or an entrepreneur aspiring to be a venture capitalist, this course will help you connect the dots between venture capital operations and the entrepreneurship journey.

This course does not include a pitching session.
