Students will explore strategies for acquiring, managing, and growing real estate portfolios, with a particular focus on build-to-sell and build-to-rent models. The course also emphasizes tax-efficient investment approaches and includes an in-depth analysis of California’s housing policies, including regulations, tenant protections, and development incentives, to inform strategic decisions. Prior experience in real estate is not required, though a basic understanding of financial concepts is recommended.
ANGELO FAROOQ
Partner, AlphaX RE Capital
Angelo Farooq is a partner at AlphaX RE Capital, a real estate development and investment company. He serves on the board of directors for the Los Angeles/Ventura/San Bernardino Counties Building Industry Association. He was appointed as the chairman of the California Workforce Development Board and elected as chair of the National Association of State Workforce Board Chairs. He received an executive master degree and a doctorate in policy, planning, and development (DPPD) from USC.
STEPHANIE YI
Founder and CEO, AlphaX RE Capital
Stephanie Yi is a Silicon Valley–based real estate entrepreneur who successfully developed from $0 to over $600 million (combined in assets under management & construction) within a span of five years. Previously, she founded and sold a biotechnology company and was a fund manager, gaining extensive management experience. Her serial entrepreneurial background and fund management experience enable her to identify opportunities and mitigate investment risks effectively. She received a PhD in biology from the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences.
