Whether you are launching a new product or organizing a major mission, a strong grasp of project management skills can ensure that project targets are met on time and under budget. Stalwarts such as HP and IBM have long considered project management courses essential for their engineers and managers, and current top CEOs also understand that implementing the best practices of project management can help reduce costs, increase productivity, and boost corporate competitiveness. In this virtual course, students will be introduced to important concepts—such as the work breakdown structure and the critical path method—and then led through the hands-on planning and execution of a team project in breakout groups during class. Lectures will delve into essential areas such as cost, quality, human resources, communication, and risk management, and will address ethical and cultural issues of project management. Virtual instruction will be complemented with videos and a guest lecture by a veteran project management practitioner. Students, project engineers, managers, and business owners will benefit from gaining a firm understanding of this essential management skill.
