Whether you run a small business, are looking for a job, or work for a potential thought leader, a strong online personal brand can be a tremendous asset. Education, former employment, or other achievements substantiate a personal brand and integrity, but might be invisible on search engines and across social media. Why does this happen, and how can you fix it? Personal branding and online reputation management are crucial for individuals, job seekers, and corporate executives—almost anyone in business, academia, or nonprofits. Hiring managers use search engines such as Google and social media sites such as LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram to vet prospective hires. Investment bankers, potential business partners, and even journalists use social media sites to research a person “incognito,” before they reach out with a business or interview opportunity. Your online reputation being invisible, good, or bad, can have a tremendous impact on whether opportunities come your way or remain out of reach.

In this workshop, we will explore how search engines and social media impact online brand image. Next, we will learn how to use Internet techniques such as a strong blog, a detailed LinkedIn profile, or dynamic engagement on YouTube, Twitter, and Facebook to build a strong personal brand online. The course is focused on SEO and social media marketing from the perspective of a person, not an organization.
