In this course, students will learn how to design a lean and scalable data process that will produce fast and accurate analytics to support daily decisions. We will go through a complete data journey, learning the technology and data aspects of every step and their optimization. We will learn how to use raw data to discover quickly where to focus, financial and operational data to identify where action is required, and a wide variety of metrics to understand the drivers behind this activity. Working from real data sets from such companies as LEGO, T-Mobile, and Southwest Airlines, and industries such as banking and insurance, retail, consumer goods, and pharmaceuticals, we will learn how to start with the questions that lead to concrete actions. From there we will research relevant data and design an efficient collection process that will prepare the data for high-quality connections and calculations. We will create business-driven models to facilitate analysis and navigation through the data, including high-speed analytics that will let us search a data set almost at the speed of thought. Last, we will stretch our analytics with the application of machine learning algorithms to see the signals in the noise. By the end of this course, students will know how to deliver analytical and impactful reports that will drive rapid and focused actions, and will be familiar with data processes that can deliver time gains, accuracy, and sustainable results.
