When employees feel like they belong, they are more engaged, resulting in improved morale and job performance. Research has also shown that teams comprised of members from different backgrounds are more innovative than others. Companies with robust diversity and inclusion (D&I) programs not only experience increased productivity, but also have greater success in talent acquisition and retention.

In this workshop, you will learn key concepts of D&I through a series of stories, group exercises, and case studies that will make you an effective ally and leader for your team. After learning the vocabulary of inclusion, we will focus on how to introduce this culture to others, including how to handle missteps. We will examine barriers to inclusion such as microaggressions related to racism, sexism, ageism, and business tactics, and how to break through them in order to maximize team performance.

By the end of this course, you will be able to (1) recognize your own biases and those of others, (2) see “power-isms” that exist in the systems and procedures around you; and (3) apply techniques to tackle organizational performance issues rooted in lack of employee engagement in areas such as team collaboration, responsiveness to customer needs, ability to innovate, and attendance.

Yuka Nagashima, Founder, Paideia Enterprises

Yuka Nagashima is a management consultant specializing in diversity and inclusion (D&I) who has developed inclusive programs and solutions for education, startups, governments, and nonprofits. She is an advisory board member and former president of Astia, leveling the playing field for women entrepreneurs.
