One of the most common causes of failure for IoT (Internet of Things) products is not having strong product managers who understand the complexity of bringing IoT products to market—product managers who can guide organizations through design, development, go-to-market planning, and services implementation. IoT products require product managers to navigate and coordinate many more internal and external groups than non-IoT products. IoT products have more technology layers, including device hardware, device software, networking, cloud platforms, and cloud applications, as well as additional operational complexities such as field installation, remote monitoring, and complex partner ecosystems. This course teaches product managers how to successfully bring IoT products to market by leading and influencing cross-functional teams inside and outside your organization. We will study how to most effectively work with executives, designers, data scientists, engineering, sales, business development, customer success, and services to bring your product strategy to market. Students with related backgrounds such as engineering, design, marketing, or business will also find this course extremely useful.

Students are encouraged but not required to complete BUS 145: “Product Management for the Internet of Things” prior to enrolling in this course.

Daniel Elizalde, Product Management Coach

Daniel Elizalde has worked in IoT for nearly twenty years. He helps companies develop their IoT product strategy and trains product managers to become successful at managing IoT products.
