Conversation is the heart of all communication. Conversational Intelligence® (C-IQ) is a framework and methodology that integrates the worlds of neuroscience, language, and leadership to help us “make the invisible visible” in our interactions. By increasing our awareness of how conversation works, we can positively shape our neural pathways in order to consistently create higher quality and more effective conversations. This course is designed for anyone who wants to increase trust, collaboration, and mutual success with any audience.

The course will begin with an introduction to exactly what C-IQ is and how it differs from and integrates with emotional intelligence. As the course unfolds, students will learn about the neuroscience of trust and distrust, and see how certain interactional dynamics increase or erode trust. By breaking down the components of all conversations and mapping them to core C-IQ principles, the course will detail how certain conversations lead others into either “I-centric” protect or “we-centric” partner behaviors. By using discussion and reflective exercises, students will experience the cost of poor communication and learn new approaches that lead to growth, partnership, and mutual success. Students will leave with a heightened awareness of the neurobiology underlying all conversations; practices to ensure care, courage, and candor in all your interactions with others; and the conversational essentials that lead to co-creation and success.

Due to its short format, this workshop may not be taken for Credit or a Letter Grade.

Peter Coughlan, Design and Organization Change Consultant

Peter Coughlan has more than twenty years of experience applying tools and methods from the social sciences to his work in the fields of design and organizational transformation. Previously, he was a partner at IDEO, where he helped found and lead the Organizational Transformation practice. He received a PhD in applied linguistics from UCLA.

Amy Eliza Wong, Life Coach, Communication Coach, and Consultant

Amy Eliza Wong is the founder of Always On Purpose, which works with individuals, Fortune 500 companies, and rehabilitation centers on transformative communication and interpersonal relationships. She received her certification in C-IQ from its founder, Judith E. Glaser, and is a communication coach for Own The Room and a certified Transformative Life Coach. She received an MA in transpersonal psychology from Sofia University.
