Are you thinking of starting a consulting, software development, or other service business but aren’t sure what to do first? Or are you running a service business working too many hours for too few dollars and wondering if you can improve your model? Whether you’re interested in doing part-time work on the side or building the next McKinsey, this course will show you how to start, build, and grow a successful service firm.

Through a mix of lectures, participatory in-class exercises, and guest speakers, this course will teach you how to test your service-business idea before launch, find and pitch new customers, leverage social media to find and retain customers, write and price winning proposals, and establish the operational infrastructure you need to grow your business. We will also review various legal and tax options. Finally, the course will explore different paths for moving beyond project-to-project work to create a self-sustaining referral engine. The emphasis will be on imparting pragmatic, actionable, street-proven knowledge you can start using tomorrow.
