Do the things you say to yourself hold you back? We often fight a running battle with a destructive inner voice that judges our thoughts and actions. Paradoxically, this voice stems from messages received early in life, often from well-intentioned parents and teachers who wanted us to fit in and succeed. Instead, these judgments imprison our creative potential. We fear taking risks, afraid of failure, rejection, or ridicule. The answer lies not in trying to do away with the voice’s judgments but in decoding and diffusing the anxiety behind them. Once we understand and befriend this part of ourselves, we—not the harsh Inner Critic—are in charge. This workshop will offer proven techniques to reshape the Critic into a constructive, discerning ally. You can learn to think strategically without the static of self-criticism and act confidently without self-sabotage. Interactive exercises, writing, and discussion will allow students to adapt theoretical material from psychology and neuroscience into practical techniques customized for their own situations.
