This course is designed for students of all levels who want to enrich themselves by having a creative art practice in their daily lives. Unlike a traditional art studio course, this five-week intensive will guide students through daily exercises in which the focus is spending more time making and less time analyzing. By experimenting with mixed media in nontraditional ways, students will turn their attention toward engaging the creative process instead of seeking to master a specific medium. Daily prompts will offer students guided explorations using a variety of media, including graphite, felt-tip pen, ink, acrylic paint, photography, and collage.
Each experiment is intended to be completed in a short sitting, although students are free to dedicate as much time as they feel is necessary and may complete exercises whenever it’s most convenient for them. An optional project will enable students to focus on a single topic and develop it further. Students will have the opportunity to share their results with the rest of the class and the instructor for feedback if they wish.
Students must purchase their own art supplies for this course and can expect to spend an additional $35–$50 on these materials. Because of the higher enrollment compared with a traditional art studio course, students will not receive instructor feedback on daily posts.
