Do you love taking photos of what you eat? Do you wish you knew how to make better use of your camera when taking those photos? In this one-day course, we will learn how to style and photograph food and how to use natural light to take dynamic pictures. Using digital SLR cameras, we will shoot outdoors with a variety of different props. We will go over camera basics, including which lens, f-stop, and shutter speed to choose for best results. After looking at professional food photographers’ work for inspiration, we will discover how to combine surface backgrounds and props such as plates, silverware, napkins, glasses, candles, and flowers for a successful and well-composed shot. Students will be encouraged to prepare their own food at home and shoot during the course. Whether you’re a food blogger or someone who just loves taking pictures of your meals, this course will help make those photos look even more appetizing and professional.

Students should have a digital SLR camera; mobile cameras are not recommended. Although this course is geared toward beginners, students should be familiar with their cameras before the course starts—ideally familiarizing themselves with the camera's manual.
