This course is open to students who have completed four quarters of Italian in Continuing Studies, as well as to newcomers who can already converse in Italian about their home, family, and activities in the present and recent past and who can shop in Italian at a local market. Using a “building block” approach to teaching and learning, the course will help students progress rapidly in both written and oral language, strengthening conversational fluency through essential vocabulary and grammar. Italian media—such as videos, newspapers, and magazines—will further enhance language skills and cultural understanding. Students will receive individualized attention tailored to their learning goals. By the end of the course, they will be able to read and order from an Italian menu and talk more comfortably about work, travel, and leisure activities, share opinions and preferences, and participate in longer, more spontaneous conversations.
Students must complete ITA 04: “Beginning Italian: Part IV” or have comparable experience prior to enrolling in this course.
