The third in a three-quarter sequence of introductory Mandarin Chinese, this course is geared toward students who have taken the first two quarters in the sequence, or who know approximately 250 words and can hold some simple conversations on such topics as family and friends, work, schedules, and hobbies. In this course, we will actively engage our Chinese through lively class discussions, role-play activities, and interactive tasks. The course emphasizes continuing development of speaking and listening skills, although some new Chinese characters will be introduced. By the end of the quarter, students will be able to talk about and engage in activities surrounding increasingly sophisticated topics such as school and work life, shopping, transportation, and trip planning.

Xiaofang Zhou, Lecturer in Chinese, Stanford

Xiaofang Zhou has taught Mandarin Chinese at all levels at NYU, Princeton, and Columbia. Zhou received an MA from Beijing Language and Culture University.
