This course, the second of three, offers students a supportive, structured space to develop their creative nonfiction—memoir or personal essay—within an ongoing writing group that spans the full academic year. Meeting weekly with the same cohort and instructor allows students to build close relationships with engaged readers who become deeply familiar with their work and goals. There’s no need to keep reintroducing your project—just the space to keep diving deeper. Some writers will work sequentially toward a book-length manuscript; others may focus on stand-alone pieces, using the group as a space for creative exploration and discovery. Students are welcome to continue working on an existing project or experiment with new ideas. The course supports those looking to make writing a more consistent part of their lives, whether or not publication is the goal. Oral peer feedback will be central, fostering a rigorous, attentive community while preserving more time for students’ own writing. Each student will receive detailed written comments from the instructor on one submission of their choosing; all other pieces will receive oral feedback during class discussions.

This is the second course in our Memoir Club series. The first course was offered in Fall 2025, and the third course will be offered in Spring 2026. Completing each course guarantees priority registration in the following quarter. Each course can be taken independently as well.
