Beginning Chinese II

(CHN 02)

Do you speak the world’s most-spoken language? If so, Beginning Chinese II may be just the place to brush up on your Mandarin skills. Designed for beginners with some knowledge of Mandarin and facility with the pinyin romanization, this course emphasizes conversation and focuses on the acquisition of basic communication skills for travel, business, and everyday use. We will use the textbook Practical Chinese Reader, Book 1, as well as a workbook written by the instructor along with energetic, fun, yet relaxed conversation. By the end of the course, you will be able to talk about yourself, family, friends, and work, and you will know the vocabulary to order common restaurant dishes. You will also be able to read and write about 200 characters. This course is the second of a three-quarter sequence of beginning Mandarin Chinese.
