ART 233
(ART 233)
Drawing plays a vital and fundamental role in
the work of artists and designers. Engaging in the
process is as essential for beginners as it is for experienced
practitioners. And, as students will discover,
drawing from live models is also one of the most
inspiring ways to learn to draw.
Working with figures, this course will explore
aspects of design such as line, form, proportion, tone,
and composition in concert with the expressive character
of touch, texture, and mark making. Each week,
we will focus on contour, line, gesture, chiaroscuro,
and composition through the figure. Additionally, we
will look at examples of drawings, starting with cave
drawings, then moving through the Renaissance and
working through today.
Prior painting or drawing experience is suggested but not required.
