Creating Executable Business Strategies (BUS 88)
What makes a good strategy in times of change and high uncertainty? How do you make a strategy work? This course will provide tools and methods for managing an actionable strategy formulation process. It will address the value of a strategy, the goals of the strategy development process and its implementation, the critical attributes, and how to apply it to new business creation or to established products and services. In addition, this course will address the development of measures that both promote effective implementation and reduce uncertainty.
The essence of an executable strategy is the ability to gain and maintain control over one’s destiny by creating degrees of freedom to act. Rather than a document sitting on a shelf, effective strategies must be relevant, executable, and adaptable, generating incremental profits in the marketplace. This course is designed for those who are interested in gaining skills in the areas of strategy creation, execution, and business effectiveness.
Sheryl Root

Sheryl Root is a strategy, marketing, and product development executive with more than eighteen years of experience at Hewlett-Packard and ten years of software systems experience in a leadership role for the financial and computing industries. She provides consultative leadership in business strategy development and execution, marketing operations, and software systems delivery working across business units, functional areas, and geographic regions. Root received a Sloan Master's degree in business management from Stanford.
