Model-based Invention and Innovation (BUS 75)
Promising ideas deserve the best innovation development tools. This course will provide a practical guide to advanced systematic innovation techniques. We will consider invention and innovation models in technology and business methods within a variety of industries such as information technology, manufacturing, finance, entertainment, and others. Participants will learn advanced techniques for identification of high-value opportunities. Then we will proceed to methods of systematic analysis, which will be followed by problem-solving sessions.

The course is intended for inventors, entrepreneurs, and innovation management professionals who are involved in the creation and implementation of new ideas in high tech industries. It aims to broaden participants' arsenal of techniques and strategies for solving short- and long-term problems.

This course will take place over 5 Thursdays, June 26 - July 24 (from 7:00 - 8:50pm), plus one Saturday workshop on August 2 (from 10am - 4pm).


Eugene Shteyn
Director, Intellectual Property and Standards, HP Digital Entertainment Services
Eugene Shteyn holds twenty-one US patents and is a named inventor on more than forty patents pending (in software architecture, digital entertainment, home networking, virtual environments, services, and other areas). At Hewlett-Packard, Shteyn is responsible for invention development and long-term technology strategy. He also represents his company on the board of directors of a major international standards organization. He holds degrees in mechanical engineering and computer science. Many of his original ideas are now represented in products and industry standards.
