The Secret Sauce of Innovation (BUS 184)
Successful management of innovation is ever more elusive and difficult in the current outsourced, downsized, offshored world. Networks of people seeking effective collaborations (the most critical aspect of innovating) are finding each other and inventing new solutionsoften outside of organizational structures. New ways are needed to nurture innovation and troubleshoot the pathways to profitability.
This course is for investors, innovators, and managers. We will review existing research and traditional wisdom on managing innovation, and we will update that wisdom with 21st-century approachesdealing with structural shifts, evolving charters and visions, global interdependencies, and collaboration tools. Readings will focus on how innovation flows within and around organizational and personal relationships. Presentations will feature instructors and students case studies of successful and failed products, brands, and services. Students will take away a toolbox of concepts to assess an innovation opportunity.
